Dallara Museum — 23,000 square feet of interactive and hands-on exhibits centered around the world’s fastest sport and the world’s largest formula-car constructor. 1201 N. Main St. (Walk east to Main St. and look to your left, across the street. 0.2 miles/1 minute).
Allison Innovation Center — 10th St. and W. Cossell Rd. (0.2 miles/1 minute).
Main Attraction Antique Mall — Furniture, jewelry, comics, coins, baseball cards, racing items and more. 1450 N. Main St. (0.4 miles/1 minute).

Allison Transmission — 1 Allison Way. (0.5 miles/2 minutes).
Indianapolis Motor Speedway — Home of the world’s largest single-day sporting event, the Indianapolis 500. 4790 W. 16th St. (0.7 miles/2 minutes).
Praxair — 1400 Polco St. (0.8 miles/2 minutes).
IMS Museum — A building devoted to the history of the Indianapolis 500, automobiles and auto racing. 4750 W. 16th St. (0.8 miles/3 minutes).
Leonard Park — 14.5 acres at 5400 W. 15th St. (0.9 miles/3 minutes)
Eight Seconds Saloon — Country-western bar that hosts concerts and dance lessons, 111 N. Lynhurst Dr. (1.5 miles/4 minutes).
Brickyard Crossing Golf Course — Voted in top 100 American public golf courses by “Golf Digest” and “Golfweek.” 4400 W. 16th St. (1.8 miles/5 minutes).
Kohl’s — Chain department store offering a wide selection of brand-name clothing, accessories and homewares. 5660 Crawfordsville Rd. (1.9 miles/6 minutes).
Five Below — Teen-oriented retail chain for a large assortment of games, snacks, jewelry, room décor, etc. 5698 Crawfordsville Rd. (2.1 miles/7 minutes).
Speedway Public Library — 5633 W. 25th St. (2.4 miles/7 minutes).
Meadowood Park — 12.7 acres at 5700 Meadowood Drive; site of Speedway Summer Nights events. (2.6 miles/7 minutes).

GROCERY STORES:
The closest full-sized grocery store is the Kroger at 5718 Crawfordsville Rd. (2 miles/5 minutes), but it has gotten some bad reviews lately. So for Krogers, I recommend going a little farther to the Kroger at 8150 Rockville Rd. (4.6 miles/14 minutes), or a little farther to an even bigger Kroger at 108 N. State Rd. 267 in Avon (9.9 miles/25 minutes). Brownsburg also has a brand new Kroger.
There are many alternatives though. There is a Walmart Neighborhood Market at 5835 W. 10th St. (1.5 miles/5 minutes); a Walmart Super Center in Avon at 9500 E. U.S. Highway 36 (7.2 miles/17 minutes); a Walmart Super Center to the north at 4545 Lafayette Rd. (4.8 miles/12 minutes), and a Sam’s Club for members (inside the I-465 circle; 2.2 miles/5 minutes). There is also a members-only Costco on Rockville Rd. in Avon.
There is a brand-new Aldi in Speedway near Interstate 465, Crawfordsville Rd. and High School Rd. (about 2.5 miles/6 minutes). There is another Aldi already in Avon at 9779 E. U.S. Highway 36 (7.5 miles/20 minutes).
Other grocery stores on Rockville Rd. (aka U.S. Highway 36) include Fresh Thyme Market at 9040 Rockville Rd. (5.7 miles/13 minutes); Meijer at 10841 E. U.S. Highway 36 (6.1 miles/15 minutes), and the Super Target at 10209 E. U.S. Highway 36 (6.6 miles/15 minutes). There is also a closer Meijer at 5349 W. Pike Plaza Rd. (4.2 miles/11 minutes). The Meijer on Rockville Rd. often doesn’t have enough cashiers and its milk usually goes bad before the expiration date. The Meijer-brand ice cream is delicious though; it rivals the name brands and costs less.
If you are shopping for health foods, Georgetown Natural Foods Market , 4375 Georgetown Rd., gets very good reviews. (4.4 miles/13 minutes).
IMMEDIATE CARE:
The closest urgent care facility is on Main St.; it is called MedCheck. 1011 N. Main St., Suite 140 (across from Big Woods Speedway; go east to Main St. and then south a block and it’s on the east side of the street; 0.2 miles/1 minute).
RESTAURANTS:
Main St.:
1. Charlie Brown’s Pancake and Steak House, neighborhood diner, open for breakfast and lunch (I believe the hours are 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.), 1038 Main St. (walk east to Main St., look right; 0.2 miles/1 minute).
2. Brozinni Pizzeria, Speedway Indoor Karting’s restaurant, 1067 Main St. (walk east to Main St., look straight ahead; 0.2 miles/1 minute).
3. Big Woods Speedway, 1002 N. Main St. Very good nachos. (walk east to Main St., then south a block. It’s on the corner of 10th and Main; 0.2 miles/1 minute).
4. Daredevil Brewing Co. (limited menu but good beer they tell me), 1151 N. Main St. (walk east to Main St., look straight ahead and a little to your left; 0.2 miles/1 minute).
5. Foyt Wine Vault, 1182 N. Main St. Limited menu; good but expensive wines. (walk east to Main St., then walk north a couple of blocks; 0.2 miles/1 minute). (BTW, right at the end of our block is Foyt Racing’s Indianapolis IndyCar facility.)
6. Barbecue and Bourbon, 1414 N. Main St. (0.4 miles/1 minute).
7. Founders Grounds Coffee Co., on the rooftop of Barbecue and Bourbon. Coffee shop and desserts. (0.4 miles/1 minute).
8. Dawson’s on Main, 1464 N. Main St. My favorite restaurant on the west side. Highly recommend. (0.4 miles/2 minutes).
9. Tacos and Tequila on Main, 1502 N. Main St. Very good taco salad. (0.4 miles/2 minutes).
10. O’Reilly’s Irish Pub and Restaurant, 1552 Main St., traditional Irish cuisine and Guinness always on tap. (0.5 miles/2 minutes).
Crawfordsville Rd. Area:
1. MCL Restaurant & Bakery, 6002 Crawfordsville Rd., cafeteria. (2.2 miles/6 minutes).
2. Los Patios, 5750 Crawfordsville Rd. (2.4 miles/8 minutes).
3. Union Jack Pub, 6225 W. 25th St. (2.5 miles/7 minutes).
4. El Rodeo 5, 2605 N. High School Rd. (2.5 miles/7 minutes).
5. Chicago’s Pizza, 6321 Crawfordsville Rd. (3.2 miles/6 minutes).
6. Chipotle, 6321 Crawfordsville Rd. (3.2 miles/6 minutes).
7. Starbucks, 6321 Crawfordsville Rd. (3.2 miles/6 minutes).
8. McGilvery’s Pub & Eatery, 3009 N. High School Rd., Irish pub. (3.9 miles/10 minutes).
There is an Applebee’s, a McAlister’s Deli, a Buffalo Wild Wings and lots of fast-food places too. All are OK except I don’t recommend the Denny’s. The closest Cracker Barrel is near the 38th St. exit of I-465; the address is 3840 Eagle View Dr. (5.2 miles/10 minutes). There is an IHOP and a Chili’s and some fast-food restaurants at that exit too. Then beyond that, on 38th St. itself, is an area full of international restaurants.

1. The Famous Tomato, 5002 W. 10th St., salad bar, fruit stand, and lots of hot sauce. (0.2 miles/1 minute).
2. Mug-n-Bun, 5211 W. 10th St., retro car-hop place. (0.4 miles/1 minute).
3. Brickyard Crossing Smokehouse, 4400 W. 16th St., this is in the Brickyard Crossing golf course; I’m not sure of the hours but the food is good. (1 mile/3 minutes).
4. The Tamale Place, 5226 Rockville Rd., quick-serve counter, but best tamales in Indy. (2 miles/5 minutes).
5. Grindstone Charley’s, 5383 Rockville Rd. (2 miles/7 minutes).
6. King Ribs Bar-B-Q, 3145 W. 16th St.; sketchy area but really good ribs. (2.1 miles/6 minutes).
7. Rick’s Café Boatyard, 40050 Dandy Trail, nicest restaurant on the west side; view of boats, as it’s beside Eagle Creek Reservoir. (8 miles/11 minutes).
OTHER PLACES TO EAT OR SHOP:
Rockville Rd. — You can buy almost anything on Rockville Rd. (U.S. 36 West) in the adjoining town of Avon; from houses and cars down to a needle and thread. Rockville Rd. is the main east-west route south of 10th St. It is one exit south of 10th St. on Interstate 465, and then head west. Most of the major retailers and restaurants available in the Midwest can be found on Rockville Rd.
Other options include The Shops at Perry Crossing in Plainfield (9.8 miles/19 minutes); the Greenwood Park Mall in Greenwood (19 miles/28 minutes); The Fashion Mall at Keystone (21.8 miles/26 minutes), and Castleton Square Mall (23.7 miles/27 minutes).
